We do not want to pay to MTN traveling with a group of strangers at the top of. especially We have our own car. When we ourselves go to the top of Mauna Kea, we are still able to use telescopes? Also you can use a car to get there above, or you would have to be an SUV?
Mauna Kea is very remote. It has no public shelter, food, gasoline or service. The observatory building are usually closed to the public. There is no fixed toilets above the Visitor Information Station. The only public telephone network to Hale Pohaku is an emergency phone at the entrance of the University of Hawaii 2.2-m telescope building. Vehicles should be in good condition with good brakes and enough fuel return to Hilo or Waimea. Emergency services, including medical care, can be two hours away. The road above the OCIA the Mauna Kea observatories is not unpaved, rough, steep, winding and dangerous. Only four-wheel vehicles are permitted on OCIA. The trail can be traveled in about half an hour in good weather, but it must be extremely careful when driving, be especially on the descent. Use low gear and looking for slide areas and loose gravel. Do not drive over 25 miles per hour. Use headlights when it is foggy. The roller coaster section of the road above OCIA is particularly dangerous in the hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset, because of the low altitude of the sun – in several sections of the road, you have to go directly to the sun, so it is very difficult to to see oncoming traffic
